The abstract forms resulting from the close
up were given metaphorical values that were strongly related to
music. Flora Van Stek also doesn't seem to be attached to the documentary
value of photography. The images, which she herself calls 'visual
poems', tell more about her inner world than about visual reality.
Her background as a writer of poetry has also contributed to this
inner development. It is not strange that the laws of the art of
poetry, like order and rhythm, form the basis of her photographic
work.
The art of Flora Van Stek not only catches the eye because of
the mysterious representations. The huge sizes and the special
materials she uses as a background, give her work an unusual intensity.
